App Review: Uber - Convenient and Low Cost Transportation Anywhere
I recently had a trip to Chicago. Our crew hotel is way out in a town called Lombard, and I wanted to get into Downtown Chicago to see the city. A colleague told me about an app called Uber and I gave it a try.
I downloaded Uber onto my phone and went through the signup process quickly.
Within just a few moments the app pinpointed my location on a map and showed all cars waiting nearby and what their ETA would be if they came to pick me up. I entered my destination and Uber quickly calculated the time enroute and the fare estimate... $30 USD for a 45-minute drive.
I went ahead and ordered the ride, and I was able to watch my driver on the map as he made his way over to my hotel. The driver arrived within 10 minutes in a unmarked, clean car, with an Uber tag hanging from the rearview mirror. I hopped in and off we went.
The driver started the ride from his iPhone, and I immediately saw the app go into ride mode on my own phone. Uber had displayed our route on both of our devices and I could watch our progress.
Uber is very simple, yet has some great features. I was able to share my ride progress via SMS, email, or a link to copy and paste. If you are sharing a ride with other Uber users, you can split the fare right from the app!
I arrived in Downtown Chicago in 45 minutes and the fare was $32. Uber offered a $30/off promotion for my first ride, so it only cost $2!!
After I got out of the car, Uber informed me of my charge and gave me the opportunity to rate my driver with 1-5 stars.
Uber is amazing. Incredibly convenient, and the price is very reasonable. I will definitely be using Uber in the future when I travel.
